![]() The New Gulf Coast Choir, Inc. is a not for profit community organization serving the young people of Bay County. The choir is comprised of youths, primarily, but not limited to, ages seven through twenty-one without regard for race, creed, color, gender, disability, economic status, or national origin. The choir's "open door" membership policy allows youths from various surrounding communities to participate and underscores the choir's special focus on community "at risk" youth. Because the efforts of the choir are directed toward the total child, a number of focal points will be addressed. Guidance and instruction in social skills and interpersonal communication will be offered. They will be given assistance in developing good ethical and moral value systems, while experiencing self-discovery and moving toward a productive adulthood. Their lives will be further enriched with instruction in academics and the performing arts, thus broadening their appreciation of the same. Participating with the choir will prove to be an outlet through which youths can channel their energies while remaining drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. Additionally, the organization will assist youth in avoiding teen pregnancies and gang involvement. As a result of their involvement with the organization these youths will experience growth in the areas of academics, social interaction, and self esteem. Graduation rates will increase while teen pregnancy, and drug and tobacco use will become a non-issue. Moreover, youth who become members of the organization will act as role models, mentors, and motivators for community youth. They will offer a visible and rewarding alternative to the prevailing pressures and issues of adolescence and peer pressure.
